Stylish cafes to dress up for(1/3) Jiyugaoka Sweets Town
Jiyugaoka is a town known for its sweets. The European atmosphere of Marie Claire St. and the many western confectionery and sundry shops make this area a great place to take a stroll. The myriads of cafes where you can sit back and relax add to the town’s charm.
This famous patisserie owned by the world-class patissier, Mr. Hironobu Tsujiguchi, sparked the image of Jiyugaoka as a "sweets town." The original sweets consisting of fresh fruit and Japanese ingredients melt in your mouth and
leave you craving for more. It's primarily a take-out shop, but there's a salon where you can enjoy a cup of coffee
or tea with one of the many desserts lining the shop's display case.
Enjoy a different taste every season you visit with the "Chocolat Prince," a chocolate mousse tart with fresh fruit (515 yen, including tax);
and "Espresso S" (540 yen, including tax)
The salon space has seating for 16 people.
With the recent
increase of foreign customers, the salon space often fills to
capacity as soon as the doors open.
Just the sight of the colorful sweets in the display case will fill you with joy. Each piece, made with carefully selected ingredients, is
beautifully designed with handcrafted details.
"C'est La Vie" (580 yen, including tax), featuring the sweetness of white chocolate perfectly balanced with the tartness of raspberries, took the top award in the French confectionery competition hosted by the French Embassy. Some customers come to the shop
specifically to buy this dessert.
"Mont St. Clair," the shop's signature petit gateau, is a coffee-flavored sponge cake wrapped in rich coffee-flavored butter cream and
further covered in caramelized hazelnuts and almonds
(480 yen, including tax)
* All prices are current as of September 2014 and include tax.
