“Furikake” is a seasoning meant to be sprinkled over rice which is the staple food of Japanese. It is sometimes made at home but it is more common to use commercial products.

Most of Furikake products in the market were rather dry but nowadays there are also products with wet texture available.

Being considered as an inexpensive food, “Furikake” can be useful when there are not enough side dishes for the meal. Because it also goes with the cold rice, it is often used for lunch box or rice ball.

Majority of Furikake products use typical ingredients and have the fish or egg taste on the base, and seaweed, sesame and seasoning as flavour. Some products have the taste of popular menu such as “Sukiyaki”, Curry rice and Ramen.
